Scheduling

The process of procuring ice times and distributing those times to the various HHA programs starts during the summer months. Each rink will provide ice times to HHA or they will hold meetings in which we negotiate with other programs for ice times. The process happens sequentially as each rink's planning schedule and timeframes vary. Click here for more details about the different rinks and their planning cycles.

Once the ice times have been procured, the Scheduler will distribute week-day times for practices to teams in accordance with the Ice Scheduling Guidelines that were approved at the August 2008 HHA Board meeting. Our goal is to provide 2 practices per week per team. When more ice is available, we can increase the number of practices per week;  when ice time becomes scarce, we work hard to find ice to ensure each team gets 2 practices.

As ice times are procured, the Scheduler provides lists of weekend ice times to the Game Schedulers. For the 2008-2009 season, HHA has 2 game schedulers - one for the girls programs and one for the Coed teams. Other teams in Vermont and New Hampshire start scheduling games in late August. GSL scheduling does not happen until September when the league starts to make determinations about Tier levels.

During the months preceding the high school hockey seasons, HHA has historically been able to procure sufficient hours of ice time for practices and games. Once the high school seasons start, however, competition for ice times increases and we find ourselves with fewer hours of ice. In response to these local shortages, HHA teams have to travel further and/or practice at less desirable times.
